Cherry Puff Pastry Braid Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 200–250g cherry pie filling (or homemade cherry compote)
  • 100g cream cheese (optional but recommended)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (optional for cream cheese)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Puff Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Lay the puff pastry sheet on parchment paper.
  3. Lightly mark the dough into three vertical sections (left, center, right).
  4. In the left and right sections, cut diagonal strips about 2–3 cm wide.

2️⃣ Make the Filling

  • In the center section, spread:
    • The cream cheese mix (cream cheese + sugar + vanilla), if using.
    • Spoon the cherry filling on top.

3️⃣ Braid the Pastry

  • Fold the top and bottom edges inward.
  • Cross the diagonal strips over the filling alternately to form a braid.

  1. Brush with egg wash for shine.
  2. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and crisp.
